Cassie's 2015-16 Budget Response - A Paws-itive story for Canberra's Dogs

04 June 2015

The ACT Budget has delivered again for Canberra’s puppies, pooches and serious minded dogs!

Cassie Cupcake, Canine Campaigner, has been crunching the numbers for her second very im-paw-tant budget reply. She's gone through the papers to work out what's in it for dogs and dog-lovers across the ACT.

Here's her breakdown of what the year ahead holds for you and your canine contacts ...

Cassie's 2015-16 Budget Response

A Paws-itive story for Canberra's Dogs

1. There will be more fresh cut grass due to the government’s increased mowing schedule ...

2. But that’s going to make it harder to hide when I’m not ready to go home yet

3. Funding to clean up lakes will make them even better places to swim when the weather warms up. (I don’t want to become a winter pupsicle!)

4. But I do have a bone to pick with government plans to tidy up our local shops making it harder for dogs to grab a bite to eat on our walk.

5. The budget is giving pets and pooches a new leash on life by continuing funding to the RSPCA.

6. Providing new walking and cycling connections through my backyard in West Belco and all across Canberra

7. And investments in healthcare, especially the Belco and Tuggeranong walk-in centres, will help keep my family where they belong, hanging out with me at home.

Even with all this good news there is still a bit to growl over in the Budget.

I’m a bit hot under the collar that the government hasn’t supported my transformative city to the lake plans...

But I’m sure there will be plenty for hipster puppies to get up to at the new West Side village.

Cuts from the Federal Government have made things a bit ruff over the last few years. Instead of tightening the leash on funding, the ACT Labor Government has made sensible investments in keeping Canberra on track.

All up, the government deserves a scratch behind the ears for making record investment in Health and Education while continuing to put out treats for Canberra’s canine community.

Catch ya next year,

Cassie Cupcake, Canine Campaigner
