With Steve Fielding, Assistant Governor of the Rotary Club of Ginninderra, I helped to officially unveil the Rotary clock at Kippax Fair, marking the long-time commitment of Rotary Club of Ginninderra to the community of West Belconnen.

The Rotary Club of Ginninderra was established in 1977 and has witnessed huge changes to the community it serves over that time. The club has grown with our community and their work is as important and relevant as ever.

In 1972 when my family moved into Holt we were surrounded by farms and paddocks.

It’s a particular strength of the Rotary Club of Ginninderra that it works with a variety of other community organisations such as Kippax Uniting Church, North Belconnen Uniting Church and St Vincent de Paul to raise funds and deliver programs for the local community.

The ways in which this club helps our community is significant, from the scholarships to University of Canberra students to assist them in fulfilling their dreams to achieve a tertiary education, the citizenship awards for local primary, secondary and college students, to the establishment of the Melba Men’s Shed and now a lunchtime music program at the raiders Club of Belconnen to provide free entertainment and the opportunity for local groups to perform.

These are just a few of their many activities and I know our community would be a poorer place without services clubs like theirs who do so much good in our community. 

I commend the Rotary Clubs of Ginninderra and Belconnen and all Rotary members for their hard work and dedication to the people of West Belconnen and hope this clock acts to highlight their work and inspire others to follow their lead.
